ARTIST STATEMENT
Working from my garden studio in Birmingham, I paint abstract series defined by a deeply personal visual language; clouds, circles, patterns, and asemic writing. For me, clouds symbolise transient events or people passing through our lives; circles hold space and represent completeness; patterns recall my childhood, while writing suggests story.
My practice is inspired by my interests in philosophy, in particular Hermeticism and the Daoist practice of consulting the I Ching for spiritual guidance. These manifest as a quest for balance between the influences of head and heart; painting helps me navigate that journey.
I paint with acrylics as they allow me to build compositions in layers, then scratch and sand into the surface, revealing glimpses of what’s beneath. I hope viewers find their own emotional landscapes within my paintings – I believe wholeheartedly that art is a two way channel of communication, and should invite reflection.
I am represented by Seventh Circle Art & Aesthetics, an independent gallery in Birmingham. In 2022, I co-founded UASB, an artists’ community.
I am also a member of Full Flow Collective, and exhibit on a regular basis.
